Straight Alliance for Marriage Equality
The Straight Alliance for Marriage Equality is the first organization
founded by non-gay activists specifically to ensure the right of every
couple—gay or straight—to a fully recognized civil marriage. SAME believes
that marriage is a civil right, not a heterosexual privilege; in order for
true equality to become reality, straight people must enter the fight in an
active and vocal way. Our goal is to be a vehicle for heterosexuals to take
that first step and to be a supportive presence to the many LGBT
organizations out there fighting for marriage equality. Wherever they are,
we, too, hope to be—cheering them on and letting the world know we support
